Keyboard shortcut keys
PpcSoft iKnow is a productivity tool, and is therefore highly optimized for keyboard use.
As you can see in the example to the right, when you move your mouse over a ribbon command, you'll get both help about the command itself and the shortcut key in the statusbar.
Most keyboard shortcut keys use Windows standard shortcuts (like Ctrl + C to copy) so that once you learn to use them in one application, you can also use them in most other Windows applications.
In some cases, PpcSoft iKnow will use two alternative shortcuts because we want to follow the standard convention and we also want to provide an easier alternative.
For example, the shortcut Ctrl + L is the 'Go to Location' shortcut you use in Internet Explorer/Firefox/Opera browser to activate the address bar (to enter a different URL). You can use this shortcut to active the QuickSearch field (to search for a new note).
However, for people who are not used to this shortcut, we provide an alternative shortcut using the Esc key to toggle between QuickSearch and the Editor.
Similarly, you may use both Ctrl + F and the Caps Lock key to activate incremental search within a note.
PpcSoft iKnow is also great for helping you learn and remember the shortcuts in other applications as well.
Simply create a note for each application you use, and list the most important shortcuts (and other tips) in the note.
When using the application, hit F12 to show PpcSoft iKnow, read the shortcut, and hit F12 to hide it again.
When you start PpcSoft iKnow you'll have a few example notes included with keyboard shortcut keys. Open the note 'Help' for a list of available help notes (Excel, Outlook, Word, IE7 etc).
By having a note for each application, you can easily create your own "personal help" for each application, and edit and adjust the shortcut keys and tips as you get more experience.
Use Ctrl + Q (see Quick help) to get a list of shortcut keys inside PpcSoft iKnow.
