Statusbar Part II
- Status and help for controls

The default purpose of the statusbar is to tell you the status of the document you're working with.

In the screenshot below, you'll see the note number, line and column position. You may also get the total number of words and characters in the document.

When hovering over hyperlinks, the statusbar will tell you where it links to.

Statusbar information and shortcut The PpcSoft iKnow statusbar will also tell you what kind of controls your are moving over, and tell you the keyboard shortcut for the command if available.

In the example to the right, moving over the "New Note" button the statusbar will tell you that the purpose is to "Create a new note" and the keyboard shortcut is Ctrl + N.

Unlike most other applications, PpcSoft iKnow will also tell you why controls are disabled.

In the example to the right, the cursor is positioned on a heading, and the Bold button is disabled. The statusbar tells you the exact reason why it is disabled.

In the next example, the cursor is positioned inside the word "research", but the Bold button is still disabled.

The statusbar tells you that you need to seelct text first to use bold.

Finally, when selecting the word "research" the Bold button is enabled, and the statusbar tells you what you can do ("Toggle bold text") and the keyboard shortcut to do it.

The statusbar is located at the bottom of the window, and is therefore not obtrusive.
